Risk management is always a hot topic in agriculture.�� What is typically meant is managing financial risk through tools such as insurance, forward contracting or cropping/livestock production strategies to minimize the risk of failure.�� We most often associate risk management with money, economic survival.�� What can we do to stay in business and make sure our operation can stay in business and hopefully turn a decent profit?�� Today, let’s focus on another form of risk management – avoiding serious injury and even death on the farm.

SWAG�ϼ� will present a student recital of instrumental and vocal performances at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 5 in the Dorothy Moses Morrison Chapel, located in the Fine Arts Building, F-157. ��The recital is free and open to the public.

This chalk drawing was done during the 2014 contest in front of the Shafer Gallery.��

SWAG�ϼ� will host its ninth annual Sidewalk Art Contest May 2-4 on the sidewalk outside the Shafer Art Gallery.

The contest is open to anyone who wants to participate. Artists need to register and pick up their free chalk at the Shafer Gallery between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on any of the three days. Artists must have their work completed by 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 4.

Let’s take today and catch up a bit on what has happened in the Golden Belt as the month of May is almost here.�� Now through the end of June is an extremely busy time for crop producers and for that matter, livestock producers.

The SWAG�ϼ� Theatre Department will hold its last performance of the school year, the Thespian Showcase, at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 4 in the Fine Arts Auditorium.��

SWAG�ϼ�’s Concert Choir performs at last year’s Endowment Concert.�� Scholarships funded by proceeds from the concert are a vital part of attracting new music students.��
