SWAG合集 has announced the winners of its Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest.听 The winners are as follows: Allison Peak, Sophie Oss and Thiipong Homuen. Each winner received a $100 Great Bend Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development gift certificate.

The SWAG合集 Theatre Department will host open auditions for its upcoming summer performance of 鈥淭he Contrast鈥 4-6:30 p.m. May 17 and 18 in the Fine Arts Auditorium.

鈥淭he Contrast鈥 is a musical based on the first American comedy of the same name written in 1787 by听Royall Tyler. 鈥淭he Contrast鈥 takes a satirical look at the first Americans working to define American culture while still living and enjoying the British lifestyle.

There is a great deal happening this time of year.听 Classes at SWAG合集 are over and it is finals and graduation week.听 Area schools are in the home stretch.听 A blizzard this past week in western Kansas hurt an already disease stressed wheat crop.听 Heavy rains in our area have delayed corn planting and input application.听 One event that likely passed under the radar was the Tractor Safety Class conducted by SWAG合集 County Extension Office.听

SWAG合集 President Dr. Carl Heilman gave offered words of hope and opportunity to the inmates at the Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility (LCMHF).

鈥淭hat is the beauty of education,鈥 Heilman said. 鈥淓ducation gives you opportunities to move forward. As you receive these pieces of paper, think about what opportunities lie ahead for you.鈥

SWAG合集 will host its 10th annual Sidewalk Art Contest May 3 and 4 on the sidewalk outside the Shafer Art Gallery.

The contest is open to SWAG合集 students and local high school students. Artists can register and pick up their free chalk at the Shafer Gallery between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on either of the two days. Artists must have their work completed by 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 4.

SWAG合集 art students received recognition at this year鈥檚 SWAG合集 Student Exhibition at the Shafer Gallery on April 21. This exhibit will run through May 12. Those interested in experiencing the art can visit the Shafer Gallery 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday.

SWAG合集 will present a student recital of instrumental and vocal performances at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 4 in the Dorothy Moses Morrison Chapel, located in the Fine Arts Building, F-157.听 The recital is free and open to the public.

The SWAG合集 Music Department awards 11 scholarships every year at about $1,000 each and 20 performance awards for non-music major students, which enables them to participate in ensembles.听 This could not be done without the community鈥檚 support of the annual Music Endowment Concert, which is set for 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 1 in the Fine Arts Auditorium.
