Academics Month 2017:��This story is the first of four in a series focused on some of SWAG�ϼ�’s popular traditional academic offerings. The series was inspired by the inaugural SWAG�ϼ� Academics Month through November. A new story will be released each week.

Kurt Konda is halfway through his first semester as the new sociology instructor at SWAG�ϼ�, and he said it’s everything he expected.

This Friday, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Central Kansas and Volunteers in Action will host a Veterans Appreciation Concert at 7 p.m. on November 10 at the Great Bend City Auditorium, 1214 Stone St.

Each year, as part of the Theatre Program at SWAG�ϼ�, students are asked to take the reins and produce a show entirely by themselves. This year the production is titled “Horror Movie Survival Guide” which will make its one-night debut at 7 p.m. Nov. 6 in the SWAG�ϼ� Fine Arts Auditorium.

Just in time to follow up Halloween, “Horror Movie Survival Guide”, a comedy, looks at some of the Hollywood horror clichés and shows how these situations could be avoided by following some helpful tips.

SWAG�ϼ� will offer transitioning Fort Riley Soldiers a grant-funded two-week certificate program at no cost to participants. The Hazardous Waste Worker (HWW) program gives Soldiers credentials to help them find work after their tenure in the US Army ends.

The next course is set from Nov. 27 through Dec. 8 at 100 Continental Ave. Grandview Plaza, KS 66441.

The SWAG�ϼ� Planetarium will host a double feature showing “Dinosaur Prophecy” and “Body Code” at 7 p.m. November 6 in the SWAG�ϼ� Planetarium located in the Science Building.

An art installation titled “What were you wearing?” will be on display from November 6-10 in the upper level of the Student Union at SWAG�ϼ�. There will be an opening reception with light refreshments from 4:30-7 p.m. November 6.

Agriculture, like any endeavor, is bombarded with numbers and statistics.�� Percentages, averages, normal, total, ratings, and a variety of other terms are constantly reported and analyzed.�� While they may be useful, their real value is only apparent if you understand where they come from and how they are determined.�� One short column can hardly describe all this with adequate perspective.�� So today, let’s start discussing weather data but first some definitions.

Board of Trustee ENDs report: ‘SWAG�ϼ� Experience’

The SWAG�ϼ� Board of Trustees gathered Tuesday evening for its regular meeting and discussed one of its eight overarching goals, known as ENDs. The one up for discussion this month was “SWAG�ϼ� Experience.”

SWAG�ϼ� will host the 14^th Annual Jack Kilby Science Day from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on November 20 in the Fine Arts Building at SWAG�ϼ�. High School juniors and seniors, students with appropriate Individual Educational Programs, high school science and technology instructors and appropriate administration are all invited to this free event.
