First, more beneficial rainfall this week to go along with last week.�� Did the Drought Monitor reflect much change (remember this is as of Tuesday morning)?�� Well, the area of exceptional drought retreated somewhat southwest as did the extreme and severe drought areas.�� Or in plain English, things are “less bad” then they were allowing wheat to keep going and providing some optimism for corn/soybean producers.�� And there are rain chances for several days this week so keep your fingers crossed.

Carolina Temponi Goncalves of Brasilia, Brazil and Enrique Martinez Flores of San Salvador, El Salvador were named SWAG�ϼ�’s 2018 Outstanding Graduates. Dean of Student Services Angie Maddy introduced them and presented their awards, after which they took the opportunity to address their fellow graduates during the college’s 48th commencement ceremony Friday.

The SWAG�ϼ� Foundation honored Larry and Kathy Schugart with the 2018 Distinguished Service Award during SWAG�ϼ�’s 48th commencement Friday.������

The Distinguished Service Award was created in 1981 by the SWAG�ϼ� Foundation to recognize individuals who have shown genuine regard for, and have performed outstanding service to, SWAG�ϼ�. The SWAG�ϼ� Foundation Board of Directors selects the recipient from nominations received.

Five SWAG�ϼ� instructors earned the Distinguished Instructor Award for the 2017-2018 school year for their efforts in the classroom.

SWAG�ϼ� will be closed Monday, May 28��for Memorial Day.��

The college is on summer hours effective May 14. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The college will be closed on Fridays through August 3.��

SWAG�ϼ� has announced its 2017-18 Brant J. Ballhorst Student Ambassador of the Year awards. Named in memory of Brant J. Ballhorst, the award recognizes two outstanding Student Ambassadors each year.�� The winners this year were Konner Ireland of Great Bend and Cynthia Torres of Liberal.��

U.S. Rep. Roger Marshall, M.D. has agreed to help SWAG�ϼ� celebrate the achievements of the class of 2018 as keynote speaker.
