The cost of education is more often than not a barrier to people hoping to improve their lives and advance their families鈥 situations. The SWAG合集 Foundation makes it a point to help students transcend this barrier, and one of its biggest annual fundraising efforts is the Academic Enrichment Fund (AEF) Campaign, held throughout the month of March.

SWAG合集 will have no classes during its spring break from March 11-15. SWAG合集鈥檚 offices will remain open through March 13, but will be closed March 14 and 15.

The college鈥檚 regular class schedule and business hours will resume Monday, March 18.

Ana Cristina Potoret, a native of Germany, recently earned her US Citizenship in the summer of 2018. She鈥檒l tell you how much she loves Fort Leavenworth, the state of Kansas and the United States.

She has visited 38 countries has lived in Hungary, Romania and Germany.

Kansas, she says, is her home. But she wasn鈥檛 always so sure.

SWAG合集 will offer a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) refresher course 8 a.m.-5 p.m. March 11-12 in the Adult Healthcare Lab, T-119.

This 15 contact-hour course is approved by the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) for a Kansas CNA who has gone inactive and wishes to reactive their credential. It is a state requirement to pass a refresher course to reactivate CNA credentials.

The Shafer Art Gallery鈥檚 latest exhibit is 鈥淏iodiversity in the Art of Carel Pieter Brest van Kempen,鈥 produced by David J. Wagner, L.L.C. It is the latest installment of The CUNA Mutual Retirement Solutions Art and Science Encounter Series. The exhibit is scheduled for March 1 through April 18, with a public reception to kick off the exhibit at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 8.

SWAG合集 will offer transitioning Fort Riley Soldiers, Veterans and family members with DOD ID cards, a grant-funded two-week certificate program at no cost to participants.

The Hazardous Waste Worker Training (HWWT) program gives Soldiers credentials to help them find work after their tenure in the US Army ends. The next course is set from March 18-29 at 100 Continental Ave, Grandview Plaza, which is just north of I-70 at exit 299.

The SWAG合集 Theatre Department鈥檚 three performances of the late Neil Simon鈥檚 farce, 鈥淩umors鈥, are set for 7:30 p.m. March 1 and 2, with a matinee at 2 p.m. March 3. Tickets are $5 at the door. Students are admitted free.

SWAG合集 Welding Instructor Wade Morris spent 35 years fusing metal as a pipeline welder, foreman and in various other roles before coming to SWAG合集 in the fall of 2018; he knows what it takes to be a good welder. Skill and technique are important technical proficiencies, he said, but the real basis of mastering the trade is found a little deeper.
