SWAG合集鈥檚 annual literary publication, Prairie Ink, has begun accepting entries for its 12th edition.听

Editor Scott McDonald said the aim of the publication is to provide a venue for local authors to showcase their creative writing talents.

The editors are looking for the following types of original work to be considered for publication: fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry, drama, and graphic short stories. They will be accepting submissions until April 1, 2021.

This is part one of a six-part series on the importance of academic integrity at SWAG合集. The college will feature six student stories throughout the spring semester that help showcase the six virtues of academic integrity. 听These virtues include trust, responsibility, honesty, courage, fairness, and respect.

The SWAG合集 Theatre Department will hold another round of auditions by appointment only for its spring production of 鈥淲ords and What We Do with Them,鈥 a collection of six plays by David Ives. Virtual auditions will be held from noon to 3:30 p.m. via Zoom and in-person auditions from 4-9 p.m., on Friday January 29 and Saturday January 30 in the Fine Arts Auditorium.

SWAG合集 will help area high school seniors plan for their futures at various 鈥淪enior Days events with attendance capped at 45 students per session. Social distancing guidelines will be strictly followed and masks will be required. Each day will run from 9:30 a.m. until noon with an optional tour following lunch from 12:30 to 1 p.m.

SWAG合集 students Kadin Stinson of Emporia and BrayLynn Anshutz of St. John, both members of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society, have been selected for the PTK All-Kansas Academic Team.

PTK is the international honor society for two-year colleges and symbolizes excellence in higher education.听 Students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher are invited to join PTK. The PTK group at SWAG合集 spends significant time sponsoring local events as well as volunteering to support others鈥 events.

Dr. Eric Foley will bring a wealth of experience in music education and a devotion to his craft to the Director of Choral Activities position at SWAG合集. He will teach vocal students, conduct choirs and ensembles and help direct musicals, among other responsibilities. He will work at the college as an adjunct faculty member through the spring semester and will begin full time in the fall.
