The SWAG合集 Performing Arts Department will host 鈥淪cholarship Day鈥 auditions on Thursday, Feb. 12.听 Current or prospective students may contact the Music Department to set up a time to audition for music or theatre scholarships or performance awards.听 Awards are available for performing arts majors and non-performing arts majors alike.

The SWAG合集 Library will celebrate 鈥淟ibrary Lovers Month鈥 in February by featuring a unique event each week including special library-wide themes, creative book displays, a Facebook promotion, scavenger hunt and more.听 The event is open to students, faculty, staff and community members.

The weekly themes are as follows:

The SWAG合集 Planetarium will feature movies utilizing the full-dome projection system throughout the spring semester.听 The Planetarium is located in the Science Building. Enter through the sliding doors on the north side.听 Admission is free.

Each movie will be followed by a live presentation by SWAG合集鈥檚 Planetarium Director Dr. Tim Folkerts. The presentations will feature a tour of the night sky, hands-on activities or actual outdoor stargazing.听听

SWAG合集 will host 鈥淜ansas History Snapshot: E. Haldeman-Julius: Controversial Publisher and Free-Thinker,鈥 a presentation by Dean of Library Services and Curator of Special Collections at Pittsburg State University Randy Roberts, at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29 in the Library.听 Catered refreshments will be served.

This presentation is a chance for attendees to learn about the history of the Cohen Center鈥檚 collection of 鈥淟ittle Blue Books.鈥

SWAG合集鈥檚 Shafer Art Gallery will host an opening reception for an exhibit featuring the Kansas-inspired works of artists Doloris Pederson and Christina Lamoureaux titled 鈥淧ulse of the Prairie鈥 from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16 in the Shafer Art Gallery.听 Artist talks and performances will be at 6:15 and 7:30 p.m.

Shafer Art Gallery director Dave Barnes said the exhibit is a great showcase of the beauty and intrigue of Kansas.

The Shafer Art Gallery has installed an educational display to illustrate the complex process the Gallery鈥檚 namesake Gus Shafer utilized to create his famous bronze statue collection.

The exhibit was paid for through private donations from the Bill McKown estate.听 McKown鈥檚 generosity is recognized via signage, which names the exhibit 鈥淏ill McKown Presents: How to Make a Metal Horse.鈥澨 Mckown passed away in April of 2014.
