Kansas high school students participate in SWAG�ϼ� County Arts Council Vortex High School Art Day and Exhibit

Area high school students from Ellinwood, Great Bend, Solomon, Strafford, Larned and Hoisington came to SWAG�ϼ� to get hands-on experience from art professionals and participate in a juried art exhibit Thursday, April 6.

This year the exhibit and workshop was sponsored by the SWAG�ϼ� County Arts Council (BCAC).

Shafer Gallery to host annual SWAG�ϼ� Student Art Exhibit

SWAG�ϼ� art students will line the walls of the Shafer Art Gallery with their work during the SWAG�ϼ� Student Art Exhibit juried art show 6-8 p.m. April 21. The show will run through May 12.

The reception will include an awards ceremony where cash awards will be given for each category. The awards were donated by The Credit Union of America in Great Bend, Karen and Dale Shaner, Don and Barbara Beahm, The Great Bend Tribune, Eagle Communications, Bob Feldt, Kent Weltmer and Maureen Leahy.

SWAG�ϼ� student groups to host 5K to benefit Camp Hope

SWAG�ϼ�’s Community Service Organization and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society will host a 5K walk/run 8 a.m. Sunday, April 30. Registration will be��7:30 a.m. in the Fine Arts circle drive at SWAG�ϼ�. All proceeds will be donated to Camp Hope.

The course begins and ends at SWAG�ϼ�. There will be two groups: 16 and over and 15 and under. The top three finishers in each group will be awarded immediately following the race.

SWAG�ϼ� to close for Easter break

SWAG�ϼ� will be closed on Friday, April 14 and Monday, April 17 for Easter break. SWAG�ϼ�'s Center for Adult Education and Shafer Art Gallery will also be closed. The college's regular class schedule and office hours will resume Tuesday, April 18.

SWAG�ϼ� Orchestra to perform “Strictly Strings” concert in the Shafer Art Gallery

The SWAG�ϼ� Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 11 in the Shafer Art Gallery. “Strictly Strings”, as the title implies, will only feature the stringed instruments.

The 12-piece orchestra is comprised of high school and college students and members of the SWAG�ϼ� and Pawnee communities. The show will feature a wide selection of music from Mozart and Handel to the “Feather Theme” from Forest Gump.
