The Shafer Art Gallery will hold its annual Holiday Open House from 1-3:30 on Dec. 1. A comedic juggling performance by 鈥淛ay & Leslie鈥 will be from 1:30 鈥 2:15 p.m. Holiday-themed refreshments and crafts and a visit from Santa will follow. The Friends & Acquaintances exhibit will also be on display.

Gallery Director Dave Barnes said everyone will enjoy the magical setting of the Gallery during the holidays.

David Marcus is 30 years old. He has been incarcerated at Ellsworth Correctional Facility for his entire adult life, since he was 18. And like most inmates in correctional facilities, he has a release date and it is only four years away.

When that date comes, the difference between Marcus successfully assimilating as a productive member of society or winding up incarcerated again, a well-researched cycle known as recidivism, could be the education he pursued through SWAG合集 while behind bars.

The SWAG合集 Performing Arts Department will hold auditions for the 2019 Spring Musical, Rodgers + Hammerstein鈥檚 鈥淐inderella.鈥 Auditions are open to everyone and will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. on December 8 and 9 in the Fine Arts Auditorium. The show will be presented听March 6-8.

SWAG合集 Theatre Director Miller James said he is excited to cast the show.

SWAG合集 will be closed for Thanksgiving break Wednesday, Nov. 27, through Friday, Nov. 29. The college will resume its regular schedule on Monday, Dec. 2.

SWAG合集 will host a reception for the unveiling of the League of Women Voters of Kansas (LWVK) mobile-museum titled 鈥淟earning from the Past, Imagining the Future,鈥 from 2-3:30 p.m. Dec. 1 in the SWAG合集 Library. Refreshments will be served. The exhibit brings to life the history of the women鈥檚 suffrage movement.

SWAG合集 will host a presentation by Megan Rohleder of the Kansas State Historical Society in Topeka that will highlight Kansas historical documents and publications from noon to 1 p.m. Nov. 20. in the Cohen Center in the SWAG合集 Library. A light lunch will be served. The event is free and open to the public.

SWAG合集 History Instructor Linda McCaffery said the Cohen Center houses a very interesting and valuable collection.

The mind-blowing 鈥淢athemagician鈥 Dr. Arthur Benjamin will put on a free show at 9 a.m. on Nov. 25 in the Fine Arts Auditorium at SWAG合集.

Benjamin has appeared on many television and radio programs including The Today Show, CNN, The Colbert Report, and National Public Radio. He has been profiled in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, USA Today, People Magazine and more.

The drought monitor shows an expansion of the abnormally dry areas in Western and South Central Kansas, mostly into Northwest Kansas.听 While not one hundred percent finished, harvest is wrapping up and the promised weather over this coming week should help.听 Compared to the struggles of other areas of the Midwest and Great Plains, Kansas has fared well in harvesting summer crops and planting the 2020 wheat crop.听 Now for today鈥檚 topic 鈥 Surpluses and Shortages.
