The Drought Monitor shows all of Kansas at least abnormally dry with the area of moderate drought creeping eastward towards us.听 And there is a bullseye of moderate drought encompassing an area centered around Wichita. 听Also, a substantial area of Southeast Kansas is up to moderate drought. Again, the wheat needs moisture and there is at least a promise of some but as of the day this column was written, how much is unknown.听 However, this has allowed for a fairly rapid harvest.

SWAG合集鈥檚 Center for Adult Education will soon begin another nine-week GED Preparation Class. However, orientation sessions are required before starting the class.

Multiple delivery types are available for students to select for orientation.听 Students can choose between LiveOnline, Fuzion or face-to-face sessions.听 LiveOnline sessions will meet exclusively via Zoom. Fuzion sessions will feature a combination of face-to-face students and Zoom students.

Most students who take classes at SWAG合集 at Fort Riley learn about the institution鈥檚 unique offerings tailored to Soldiers鈥 lifestyles after transferring to the post. Melissa and Justin Johnson, however, chose Fort Riley in 2018 out of three options specifically because of SWAG合集鈥檚 day and night classes, which are offered on scholarship to Soldiers, their spouses and dependents in seven six-week cycles.

SWAG合集 has announced its fall 2020 Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) International Honor Society initiates.

PTK is the international honor society for two-year colleges and symbolizes excellence in higher education.听 Students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher are invited to join PTK. The PTK group at SWAG合集 spends significant time sponsoring local events as well as volunteering to support others鈥 events.

SWAG合集 will host a blood drive from 9听a.m.-2:30 p.m.听Friday,听Oct.听30听in the听Technical听Building in room T-186, the Case New Holland Training听area.听Social distancing guidelines will be followed and masks will be required.听

SWAG合集听encourages potential students to let their 鈥淕PA Pay the Way鈥 through the听SWAG合集 Bound scholarship. The tiered program听awards听first time college students who graduated from a Kansas high school听based on their GPA or ACT score.听The deadline to apply for the scholarship is May 1听(students graduating in December have a deadline of Dec.1).听听
