U.S. Rep. Lynn Jenkins met with SWAG合集 Board of Trustees Chair Mike Johnson and SWAG合集 President Dr. Carl Heilman Tuesday afternoon to discuss the college鈥檚 prevalence as a comprehensive community college in Kansas.
鈥淲e have a secret that we鈥檇 like to get out,鈥 Heilman told Jenkins. 鈥淲e鈥檝e received a number of comments that legislators are not aware of the scope of SWAG合集鈥檚 services. Our priority now is to get the word out.鈥
He described SWAG合集鈥檚 many services that reach beyond the borders of its home county, such as its campus at Fort Leavenworth, which is in Jenkins鈥 district, a campus at Fort Riley, OSHA training services that cover four states and Military Onsite Training (MOST), which offers military training to soldiers at bases across the nation.
SWAG合集鈥檚 Fort Leavenworth campus is the most recent addition to SWAG合集鈥檚 outreach activities, and like the others, it supports the operation of the college and helps offset the mill levy for SWAG合集 County taxpayers while offering valuable opportunities to military families.
Jenkins said she was glad to learn about SWAG合集鈥檚 efforts and is grateful for the dedication the college has to serving Kansans.
鈥淚 am proud to have met you,鈥 Jenkins said as the meeting concluded.
Johnson said the discussion was productive and is part of the Board鈥檚 goal to ensure legislators know of SWAG合集鈥檚 efforts throughout the state.
鈥淲e want to show people the impact we鈥檙e having,鈥 he explained. 鈥淲e鈥檝e been at Fort Riley for 30 years, and our success there led to our invitation to offer classes at Fort Leavenworth.鈥
